Decorated Towel

I found a tutorial for this towel on Pin Sew Press and just had to try it. I love the finished product. It is pretty and I won't mind it actually getting used for a towel.

I will definitely make some more.

Fishing in the summertime

Dave has been trying to find an activity that he enjoys that he can carry into retirement. Mainly, I think he wants something to do while I am sewing, lol. Well, he has found it. Fishing!!! He bought a cheapie pole, and some other fishy stuff, and has been fishing everyday for the past week or so. There is a lake close to us called Lake Louise, in Weaverville. It is a really nice park, and only about 5 minutes away.

It is loaded with fish and is quiet and beautiful. So now when I am sewing and he gets bored watching me, he just heads down there. Win Win situation!!!

Now if he could just catch more fish, lol. He was fishing with a bobber and worms and caught this fish as his first.

The fish was smaller than the worm, lol. So now he has changed to a spinner and has had many more bites. I'm hoping for a nice relaxing summer, and some bigger fish to fry.

My Nook

Just an update on my eReader experience. Well, Dave got to use the Nook first and absolutely loves it. So, I had to buy my own, and I love it too!!! It is nice to read outside and not have to worry about the pages blowing, plus it's great to always open it to the page I'm on. We have both of ours on the same account, so we both get the books we buy. I can't think of a single negative thing to say. I would think that any of the readers would be as nice, it's the concept that works so well. So, I heartily recommend eReaders. But I really love my Nook.

Downy's Quilts for Kids

I found out about this from a blog, and I can't remember which one.

Anyway, Downy Fabric Softener is doing a large charitable project called Quilts for Kids. You sign up to volunteer to make a quilt, and they send you the fabric (already cut) for everything but the batting and binding. It is a really cool endeavor.( I signed up and then asked for 2 kits so my sister could do one. Then I find out my sister already did this and never bothered to ask me about it. Go figure. So now I have 2 small quilts to make.) They also send you the pattern. The fabrics are really nice too.

They would like you to have them done and returned in 4-6 weeks. I think this is doable. So now you know what I will be working on for the next bit. So, if you have a little time....

Jam, Yummmmmm

FINALLY, some locally  (SC) grown strawberries have come to town. I bought a basket and made me some strawberry jam.  Yum. A definite sign of summer. Usually I just use the inversion method, but for some reason I decided to do the water bath. Nothing more satisfying then the sound of the "ping" of sealing jars. See how pretty???
