Jars in the Canning Spirit and an OOPS

I just noticed that the country calendar I posted last time was the one for July . OOPS!!!

In 2003 the ABC Quilters had a jar block exchange, and I happened on the blocks the other day. Thought I would finish this one up and ended up placing them in a cabinet. Not sure how to quilt them but they are on the quilting pile, a step closer to being done, lol.

Things are settling down here at home, and after all the final nursing home arrangements are done, I can get back into the calm life mode. Going to a quilting retreat in September will help alot!!

Life, guilt, and an August Country Calendar

Life. It sure gets complicated sometimes. I have not been able to keep up with this blog, and I don't forsee doing much more in the future, but I will try from time to time.

FIL, who, as I have mentioned previously, has dementia, fell and broke his ankle in 2 places about month ago. His mind is going so fast, he doesn't even remember that his ankle is broken, nor does he feel any pain with it. He was to go to a nursing home for rehab, but his dementia was so bad, they had to put him in the dementia ward (locked unit). It is a sad place with alot of sad people. He looks so pitiful, but we just can't bring him home because MIL can't care for him while we work, and in her advanced age, she is paranoid about all strangers, plus she is worried that someone is going to steal all her money. She thinks that Dave should just quit his job and stay here all the time to care for Rex, but we do have financial obligations too and can't afford to do that. I feel guilty about leaving him at the home, but when we aren't there, he seems oblivious to his surroundings. It is a hard thing to watch people get old and just exist rather than live. Sad.

I did finish ny August Country Calendar. They are all so cute. I also made a mini quilt for a swap but I don't have to mail it until the end of the month, so I put it on my little bed. I will need to make one for myself, as well as some sheets and a pillow case. Sweet stuff. Pics below.

We have been bringing stuff in from the garden like crazy. We froze 40 bags of green beans, 21 bags of corn, 5 bags of spaghetti sauce, and today I will be freezing tomatoes. I canned 12 jars of salsa, and MIL canned about 8 jars of tomatoes. We will be eating "fresh" veggies all winter. Here's a pic of the salsa. It's always so pretty.

I guess this kinda catches you up on my life. I have a couple of things to look forward to in September, a beach trip to meet some of the Quilting Bee girls (I hope nothing happens to those plans!!), and a retreat in Ohio with my ABC Quilter's friends. I really need this vacation.
