Quilty Stuff

I finished up a quilt top that myself and one of my quilt groups, ABC Quilters, did as a pink and white block swap for breast cancer awareness month. It will be donated to the Oncology Unit at my hospital as soon as I get it quilted. It came out really nice and I'm sure someone will get comfort from it. As I was piecing the top I also realized I was a little late getting my mammogram, so went and had that done last week. I have really missed the rain this year (we're in a really bad drought) as that is when I can really get some quilting done. But the colder weather is coming soon and that should help.

I also am finishing up some placemats I'm making
as a Christmas present for my sister-in-law, Joan.
They are really cute cows in the poppies and I'm sure she will love them as they live on a farm. I made some for me before and just had to make some for her.

The weather here is just gorgeous! The leaves are changing quickly and soon western NC will be innundated with people here to look at the leaves. As well as those really loud motorcycles going up and down the Blue Ridge parkway. (That's a whole other debate, lol). Every day we appreciate the area where we live and consider ourselves so lucky.

Well, must get other things done.
Til next time.

Nothing Changes

I'm feeling a little politically irritated today, so I feel a need to voice my complaints. Those of you who know me are aware that I am one of those dreaded "liberals" who want such things as national health care, aid for the poor, and above all, an end to this stupid war. I hate it that young men are dying every day in a country that did not attack us, and does not belong to us. I get so frustrated when I start thinking about it, but I listened to Stephanie Miller today on progressive radio and got ticked off just a bit. I won't bore you with the details, but my opinion of Dubya couldn't get any lower. So I don't get myself worked up into a tizzy, I will drop the subject.

On a lighter note, kinda, Dave and I hiked an awesome part of the Appalachian Trail the other day. It was south of Roan Mountain on the Tennessee/NC border, and the views were breathtaking, to say the least. It always brings tears to my eyes when I look over these vistas and think that if the current administration had their way, all of this pristine land would be sold

to developers to make money to help lower the deficit. Ha! With the deficit we have, sale of public land would be a drop in the bucket. Just look at that picture and tell me it shouldn't be protected for all future generations to enjoy.
This will probably, maybe, hopefully be my last post on crappy political things. From now on I will try to tell you of all the good things that happen in my life. Let's hope there are alot of those. Oh, and of course my quilting. I'm getting stuff done so should have some to show you soon.
Till next time. Only 3 years , 2 months, and 2 weeks til I retire!!

Ahhh, October, and Ann's Quilt

It's here! My favorite time of year. I love the feel of the air and the beauty of the changing colors of the trees on the mountains. And the cool temperatures at night!! It's the best sleeping of the year don't ya know, lol. I'm a very happy person right now. And have I ever told you that I have the most wonderful husband in the world?

A while ago one of the beloved members of Quilting Passion Forum, Ann (Bumblenann), passed away due to cancer. Some of us from the forum made heart blocks for a quilt to be donated to honor her. I finished quilting and binding it last week and am taking it to the director of the Oncology department at Mission Hospitals in Asheville,NC today. Ann was a lovely person and always had a smile on her face. I'm sure whoever gets this quilt will cherish it.
I have a busy day planned for today. And the weather is going to be perfect! Can't wait to get going. And only 3 years and 3 months til I get to retire!!
As always,
Wilma
